Phlebotomy Service (blood tests)
We provide a phlebotomy service at the surgery. Appointments should be made with one of our healthcare assistants. If this is for a fasting test, you should starve from 22:00 the night before. (water is allowed)
These clinics are held weekly at the surgery. We enjoy providing comprehensive maternity care, and recommend that you see your doctor as soon as you think you are pregnant.
Cervical smears are routinely recommended every 3 years for women between age 25 and 49. After this every 5 years until 65 years old. You will be sent an invitation to attend from NHS Norfolk when your smear is due. Even if you do not wish to have a smear, please discuss this important issue with your doctor or nurse.
Our practice nurses and doctors will advise you on the best method of contraception for you. We provide a full range of family planning services including the provision of the Pill, condoms and fitting of caps. Dr Rowe fits Nexplanon the contraceptive implant at Cringleford Surgery. Dr Muru & Dr Ince fit coils and implants at Hethersett surgery. Free pregnancy tests are available for women under 25 years.
Foreign Travel Immunisations
If you are going abroad we offer a travel service. Please see the travel section of this website for details of fees and requirements.
Flu and Pneumonia
We offer immunisations each autumn to all patients over 65 years old or those, including children, who have conditions such as asthma, diabetes, chest and heart disease. Please ask about our flu clinics at reception (carers are also eligible).
Diabetes and Asthma
Recall systems are run for our non-insulin diabetes and asthmatic patients. You will be invited to attend, but please contact the doctor or nurse at any time if you have any worrying symptoms.
Child Health Screening
The doctors and our health visitor screen children at the recommended intervals.
Teenagers have special worries and risks, but may not know where to turn for help. The doctors, nurses and health visitors are all pleased to discuss any worries at any surgery appointment. Your confidentiality will be respected. Teenagers can be seen by a doctor without their parents’ knowledge.
Many surgical procedures can be performed at the surgery, thus avoiding delays caused by hospital waiting lists. Please be aware we are subject to the NHS cosmetic exclusion policy, which means we cannot undertake surgery for purely cosmetic reasons. Dr Lomax, one of our Mulbarton Partners also undertakes some more complex procedures for our patients. Your own doctor may refer you to him to avoid a hospital visit.
Speech Therapy/Podiatry/Mental Health Support/Physiotherapy/ Occupational therapy
These services are all available and are arranged if necessary by discussion with your doctor.
Therapies such as chiropractic, osteopathy, massage, aromatherapy and reflexology are not available free of charge under the NHS.
If you require any vaccinations relating to foreign travel you need to make an appointment with the practice nurse to discuss your travel arrangements. This will include which countries and areas within countries that you are visiting to determine what vaccinations are required.
There is further information about countries and vaccinations required on the links below
It is important to make this initial appointment as early as possible - at least 6 weeks before you travel - as a second appointment will be required with the practice nurse to actually receive the vaccinations. These vaccines have to be ordered as they are not a stock vaccine. Your second appointment needs to be at least 2 weeks before you travel to allow the vaccines to work.
Some travel vaccines are ordered on a private prescription and these incur a charge over and above the normal prescription charge. This is because not all travel vaccinations are included in the services provided by the NHS.
The prices of travel vaccines can be found in the document below.
Travel Vaccine Prices
Please print out and fill in our details travel questionnaire and drop it into us before making an appointment. This allows our nurses to check all the latest advice to safely plan your vaccination programme.
