Welcome to Hethersett Surgery
With patient’s needs at the heart of everything we do, our website has been designed to make it easy for you to gain instant access to the information you need. As well as specific practice details such as opening hours and how to register, you’ll find a wealth of useful pages covering a wide range of health issues along with links to other relevant medical organisations.
Flu Season 2018/19
Flu season is coming around again fast.
We will be offering flu vaccines to those over 65 and those in clinical risk categories under 65 from late September through to November.
We will be doing these as booked clinics this year as there has been a change by Public Health in the vaccines used and these are being delivered in three amounts.
We will be texting patients with invitations based on the delivery dates and quantities.
If you have not received a text message inviting you then you can check at reception from mid-September to see which group you will be in.
Please support your GP practice and have your Flu vaccination with us.
There will be enough vaccines available at the practice for all eligible patients, but some patients (who are over 65 but with a lower clinical risk) will not be offered their vaccine until November because of the delivery times.
The main flu peak is not normally until December through to the New Year so your vaccination should be in plenty of time.
The new vaccine introduced by Public Health is more effective and therefore it is better to wait for the more effective vaccine rather than give you a less effective vaccine earlier. Because it is the first year it is being used widely in the UK they are not able to provide all the necessary vaccines by early October so the deliveries to all surgeries are being staggered.
Please bear with us and do ask reception if you have not had a text message and they will be able to let you know when you can book in.
Extended Opening Hours
This practice is taking part in the ‘Improved Access’ provision of appointments as part of Ketts Oak Locality in South Norfolk.
We will, therefore, be providing some pre-bookable appointments outside our normal opening hours.
These will be done on a rota basis so please enquire at reception for more information or to book an appointment.
Please click here for further information regarding Hethersett surgery's early closing times for October 2018.
In accordance with a Government directive, all patients have been allocated a named doctor at the surgery they are registered with. However, you can still book an appointment to see whichever doctor you prefer, or whomever is available at a time most convenient to you.
If you would like to know who your named doctor is, please ask at reception when you next visit.
Online Appointment Booking/Cancellation
Appointments can now be booked online via this website. If you wish to access the online service, you will need to obtain a unique Username and Password from your surgery reception. Please bring some form of photo identification with you (driving licence or passport).
Friends and Family Test
With effect from 1st December 2014, NHS England is introducing a short survey into General Practice called the Friends and Family Test. The principle is that all people who use the NHS should be able to feedback their experience to improve services for patients.
Therefore, after each visit to the surgery, you will be given the opportunity to complete the survey and post it in a reply box. Alternatively, you can complete it online via this website, the link is located at the bottom of the homepage.
Each month the practice must report the figures to NHS England who will publish the results on the NHS Choices website. The practice will also display the results in each surgery and on our own websites.
If you have any questions regarding FFT or if you have any difficulty in completing the survey, please speak to one of our receptionists who will be happy to help you.
Access to Medical Information Online
In accordance with the 2014/15 GP contract regulations, our practice now offers patients the facility to view areas of their medical records online. Patients can now view and print a summary of information relating to medications, allergies and adverse reactions.
If you would like to be able to view this section of your medical records, please visit reception and bring photo identification with you (passport or photo driving licence). We will then issue you with a unique username and password for you to be able to access your records online. You will also be able to use the same log in details to order repeat prescriptions and book online appointments.
If you already have a username and password to use online services but would also like to view areas of your medical records, please speak to a receptionist who will arrange this for you.
Text Messaging Reminders
If you have provided the surgery with your mobile telephone number, you may start to receive text messages to advise you of a recall for an appointment, to confirm the cancellation of an appointment and to advise you when you have failed to attend an appointment.
If we do not have your mobile number and you would like the surgery to be able to contact you in this way, please speak to a receptionist. Please note that it is your responsibility to inform the surgery if the number changes.
By providing your mobile number you are consenting to us using that number to contact you. If you do not want to receive text messages, please speak to one of our receptionists who will be happy to help.
